What is a Recurring Cost?

Recurring Costs are regular payments like bills, subscriptions, or direct debits that leave your account on a repeating basis.

Lumio automatically detects these payments and groups them for you — so you can see all your ongoing commitments in one place.

How Lumio detects Recurring Costs

When you connect a bank account or card to Lumio:

  1. Lumio scans your transactions for repeating payments.

  2. Within 60 seconds, you’ll get a notification that your Recurring Costs are ready to review.

  3. Tap Review to check and confirm them.

Examples include:

  • Bills: Gas, electricity, council tax, broadband, water

  • Subscriptions: Netflix, Amazon Prime, Spotify, Apple, etc.

  • Direct debits: Rent, mortgage, debt repayments

  • Scheduled transfers: Savings contributions, credit card payments

Reviewing your Recurring Costs

When your suggested Recurring Costs appear:

  • Payments identified will show with a ✅ blue tick on the left hand side.

  • If something isn’t a recurring payment, simply untick it.

  • Tap Confirm Recurring Costs when you’re done.

  • You’ll then be asked to confirm whether each payment is personal or should be shared in your Shared Space.

Adding a Recurring Cost manually

If Lumio misses a payment, you can add it yourself:

  1. Go to the Spending tab.

  2. Open the Recurring Costs widget and tap Details.

  3. Tap Add new in the top-right corner.

  4. Select the transaction you want to mark as recurring.

  5. Confirm the frequency (e.g. monthly, weekly) and the start date.

  6. Tap Add to Recurring Costs.

That’s it — Lumio will now track it automatically and show it as either Paid or Upcoming, depending on your spending cycle.

Sharing Recurring Costs

  • To share a Recurring Cost with your partner, just share it the same way you’d share any transaction from your Private to your Shared Space.

  • If you haven’t set it as a recurring payment yet, first add it in your Private Space, then share it to your Shared Space.

Tip: Sometimes Lumio may suggest costs in your Private Space that are already covered in your Shared Space. You can safely ignore these duplicates.

✅ With Recurring Costs set up, you’ll never lose track of bills, subscriptions, or regular payments again — and you’ll always know what’s coming up next.
