What is Everyday Spending in Lumio?

Everyday Spending is all the money you and your partner spend outside of regular bills and recurring costs. Some people call this discretionary spending or day-to-day spending.

Examples include:

  • Groceries

  • Uber & travel

  • Eating out

  • Entertainment (cinema, Netflix rentals, events)

  • Amazon or other shopping

In your Spending tab, Everyday Spending sits alongside:

  • Recurring Costs (bills, subscriptions, rent, mortgage)

  • Total Spent (Everyday Spending + Recurring Costs combined)

👉 If a transaction isn’t marked as a Recurring Cost in Lumio, it will automatically fall under Everyday Spending (unless you choose to exclude it).

Everyday Spending in Private vs Shared Space

  • In your Private Space, Lumio tracks just your own everyday spending.

  • In your Shared Space, you’ll see the combined everyday spending across both partners (and any joint accounts you’ve linked).

This means you can always see the full picture, whether you’re tracking money as an individual or as a couple.

Breaking down contributions

Lumio makes it easy to see who paid for what. Within the Everyday Spending widget, you’ll find:

  • Total Everyday Spending (combined total for the space)

  • Your spending

  • Your partner’s spending

  • Joint account spending

This breakdown helps you and your partner keep things balanced — and avoids awkward “who paid more?” conversations.

How to make the most of Everyday Spending

  • Compare Actual vs. Projected: Track your real spending against your projected amount for the cycle, so you know if you’re overspending or staying on track.

  • Spot habits together: Identify areas where your everyday spending is creeping up (e.g. dining out or online shopping).

  • Share selectively: Keep some personal spending private, and share only what’s relevant to your joint finances.

  • Align with your payday: Set your Spending cycle to match your payday for a clear paycheque-to-paycheque view.

✅ With Everyday Spending, you’ll have a clear view of your day-to-day money habits — both individually and as a couple — so you can save more, argue less, and grow together.
