What is Total Spent in Lumio?

Total Spent is the combined amount of all spending in your chosen space (Private or Shared).

It includes:

  • Everyday Spending – groceries, Amazon, eating out, entertainment, travel, Uber, etc.

  • Recurring Costs – bills, subscriptions, council tax, rent, mortgage.

👉 In short: Total Spent = Everyday Spending + Recurring Costs.

Where to find it

In the Spending tab, you’ll see three widgets:

  1. Total Spent

  2. Everyday Spending

  3. Recurring Costs

Tap Details on the Total Spent widget to see a full list of all related transactions.

Spending categories

To give you even more clarity, Lumio breaks down your Total Spent into spending categories. This helps you and your partner see exactly where your money is going and compare it against what you expected to spend.

  • Categories include things like Groceries, Entertainment, Travel, Shopping, and Eating Out.

  • There’s also a dedicated Bills category, with sub-categories such as TV, Water, Gas, and Electricity.

  • Lumio provides an expected amount per category, helping you stay on track with your budget as a couple.

👉 This means you’re not just tracking how much you spend, but also what you spend it on — making it easier to spot patterns, cut back where needed, and save more together.

Total Spent in Shared Space

In your Shared Space, Lumio also shows contributions by partner:

  • Your spending

  • Your partner’s spending

  • Any spending from a connected joint account

This makes it easy to see how much each of you is contributing overall.

Customising your spending cycle

We know not everyone tracks money from the 1st of the month. That’s why Lumio lets you customise your spending period.

For example, you can set your cycle to start on your payday (e.g. 27th of the month), giving you a clear picture of income vs. spending each paycheque.

How to set a custom spending cycle (Pro feature)

If you’re a Lumio Individual Pro or Couples Pro customer:

  1. Switch to the space you want to update using the toggle in the top left corner.

  2. Go to your Spending tab.

  3. Tap the fixed date below the Spending title.

  4. On the filter screen, tap Set Cycle (top right).

  5. Select the starting day of the month to match your pay cycle.

Now your Total Spent will always align with your pay period.

✅ With Total Spent, you’ll always know exactly how much is going out — whether it’s personal, shared, or joint.
